Week 6
Sept. 29 - Oct. 3
Sept. 29 - Oct. 3
Wow, how time flies. This is the last week of the first grading period. Next week your 2nd graders will be coming home with their first report card with letter grades. What a big kid concept. Please spend a little time celebrating them and their hard work. I am proud of all my hard workers. This week will taking tests in reading, math, and social studies.
This year math has been difficult. The state of Texas has updated the TEKS (objectives) the students are learning about. It has been a little jump for us, but we are working hard and will get there. I am so proud of my students for doing and bring in their math homework. If you and your child have a busy evening please don't stress, just work on the math homework the next night. My goal is practice.
Last week in math we started working on money. Please continue to work on this concept with your child. Try playing trading up, we will start this game this week.
Trade up (make it fun)
1. give your child a handful of coins (start with a small amount and more as needed)
2. organize them
3. trade them (example: 2 nickels for a dime)
4. count them
5. write the amount in dollar form and coin form ($.43 and 43¢)
Upcoming Events at Carson
Thank you to all the parents for volunteering to help out with our carnival booth (dunking booth) at Carson's upcoming Carnival. I will be sending home a schedule this week. We are still in need of parents to volunteer for baked items for the Cake walk and money or items for the 2nd grade Tailgating basket.
